Robert Lowie

Robert Lowie (1883–1957) was a German-born American anthropologist whose ethnographic research focused on Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains and helped shape American cultural anthropology.

Franz Boas: Franz Boas was a German-American anthropologist who challenged racial determinism and shaped American cultural anthropology. Boas supervised Lowie at Columbia and trained him in historical and ethnographic approaches.
Crow people: The Crow are an Indigenous people of the Northern Plains, also known as the Apsáalooke. Lowie conducted extensive ethnographic research among Crow communities.
