The Day the Earth Stood Still : A 1951 science-fiction film in which an extraterrestrial visitor warns humanity against nuclear weapons. Wise directed this influential blend of alien visitation, political warning, and restrained suspense.
Film editing : The selection and arrangement of shots and sounds into a coherent moving-image work. Wise began as an editor, and his sense of rhythm and continuity carried into his directing.
