Roh Tae-woo

Roh Tae-woo (1932–2021) was a South Korean general and politician who served as president from 1988 to 1993. His presidency followed the 1987 democratic uprising and introduced major political reforms while retaining continuity with the military-backed government.

June Democratic Struggle: A 1987 South Korean protest movement that forced the ruling government to accept direct presidential elections. The nationwide uprising compelled Roh’s government to accept the constitutional change that made his election possible.
