Roland Freisler

Roland Freisler was a Nazi jurist who presided over Germany’s People’s Court from 1942 until his death in 1945. He became notorious for humiliating defendants and issuing death sentences, including against members of the July 20 plot.

July 20 plot: A 1944 attempt by German military and civilian opponents of Hitler to assassinate him and overthrow the Nazi regime. Freisler presided over the court proceedings against plot participants after the failed coup.
People’s Court: A Nazi German court established in 1934 to try political offenses, especially high treason and treason. Freisler led this institution and used its procedures to impose the regime’s political judgments.
