Rolf Maximilian Sievert

Rolf Maximilian Sievert (1896–1966) was a Swedish medical physicist who pioneered radiation dosimetry and helped establish radiation protection as a field. The sievert, the SI unit of equivalent dose, is named after him.

Manne Siegbahn: A Swedish physicist who won the 1924 Nobel Prize in Physics for X-ray spectroscopy. Siegbahn’s X-ray research formed part of the Swedish scientific environment in which Sievert worked.
Radiation dosimetry: The measurement and calculation of absorbed doses of ionizing radiation. This was Sievert’s central field of research and instrument development.

Ionization chamber: A detector that measures ionizing radiation by collecting electrical charges produced in a gas. Ionization chambers were among the instruments used to quantify radiation exposure.
