Roman Dmowski

Roman Dmowski (1864–1939) was a Polish nationalist politician and leading advocate of independence through diplomacy. He promoted a nation-state defined chiefly by Polish language and culture.

Partitions of Poland: The late-eighteenth-century divisions that ended the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and placed its lands under neighboring powers. Foreign rule made national independence the central problem Dmowski sought to solve.
Polish National Committee: A Polish political body established in Paris during World War I to represent Polish interests among the Allied powers. Dmowski led this organization’s campaign for Allied backing of Polish independence.
