Roman expansion in Italy was the centuries-long conquest and incorporation of the peninsula’s communities by Rome, establishing Roman dominance by the third century BCE.

Roman military: The institutions, forces, and practices used by Rome to wage war and defend its power. Legions and allied contingents supplied the force behind campaigns across Italy.
