Gallic Wars : A series of Roman campaigns in Gaul from 58 to 50 BCE, led by Julius Caesar. Caesar’s campaigns brought most of Gaul under Roman control.
Gallia Narbonensis : A Roman province in southern Gaul, organized before Caesar’s conquest of the rest of the region. It was Rome’s earliest major territorial base in Gaul.
Roman provincial governor : A Roman official appointed to administer a province, oversee justice, and exercise delegated authority. Governors represented Roman power across the provinces of Gaul.
Nîmes : A city in southern France whose Roman remains include an amphitheater and the Maison Carrée temple. Its monuments show the durable civic and architectural legacy of Roman Gaul.
Crisis of the Third Century : A period of political instability, civil war, and external invasions in the Roman Empire from 235 to 284 CE. The crisis weakened imperial control and fostered breakaway rule in Gaul.
