Roone Arledge

Roone Arledge (1931–2002) was an American television executive who shaped ABC's sports broadcasts and created the network's influential newsmagazine program, 20/20.

Wide World of Sports: An ABC sports anthology series that presented competitions from around the world. Arledge created the series, whose dramatic storytelling helped define ABC's sports identity.
Instant replay: A replay of recorded footage shortly after an event, often used to clarify or analyze it. Repeated views made pivotal sports moments easier to understand and heightened their drama.
