Rotterdam Metro

The Rotterdam Metro is a rapid-transit rail network serving Rotterdam and surrounding municipalities in the Netherlands. Its lines connect the city with suburbs and nearby towns, including The Hague.

A Line (Rotterdam Metro): A Rotterdam Metro line running between Vlaardingen West and Binnenhof. It is one of the network’s five named lines.
Rotterdam Metro opening: The 1968 inauguration of Rotterdam’s first metro line, between Centraal Station and Zuidplein. It marks the start of the network.
Rotterdam The Hague Airport: An international airport serving Rotterdam and The Hague, located north of Rotterdam’s city centre. Metro Line E reaches the airport via a connection at Meijersplein.
Amsterdam Metro: The rapid-transit rail network serving Amsterdam and nearby municipalities. It is the Netherlands’ other major metro network, with a different city layout and line structure.
B Line (Rotterdam Metro): A Rotterdam Metro line running between Hoek van Holland Haven and Nesselande. Its western branch reaches the North Sea coast.
Erasmuslijn: The historic name for Rotterdam’s first north–south metro line, now largely associated with Line D and Line E. The earliest line became the backbone for later northward extensions.
Hoek van Holland: A coastal district of Rotterdam at the mouth of the Nieuwe Waterweg. Line B connects the city with this seaside destination.
Utrecht sneltram: Utrecht’s light-rail and tram network, including routes that share tracks with regional rail services. Its street-running and shared infrastructure contrast with Rotterdam’s predominantly grade-separated metro.
C Line (Rotterdam Metro): A Rotterdam Metro line running between De Terp and De Akkers. It shares the central east–west route with other metro lines.
Calandlijn: The historic name for the Rotterdam Metro route developed eastward from the city centre toward the Nieuwe Waterweg. Its route shaped the present A, B, and C lines.
