Rudolph A. Marcus

Rudolph A. Marcus is an American physical chemist who developed a theory describing the rates of electron-transfer reactions. He received the 1992 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Electron transfer: The movement of an electron from one atom, molecule, or material to another. Marcus made the rates of these reactions the central subject of his theory.
Marcus theory: A theory predicting electron-transfer rates from reaction free energy, reorganization energy, and electronic coupling. Marcus developed this framework to explain and predict the rates of electron-transfer reactions.
