Russian ballet is a tradition of classical dance shaped by imperial theaters, state-supported schools, and distinctive methods of training, choreography, and performance.

Imperial Ballet School: A state ballet school founded in St. Petersburg in 1738, now known as the Vaganova Academy. Its formal training system helped supply dancers to Russia’s imperial theaters.
Vaganova method: A ballet training system developed by Agrippina Vaganova that integrates coordination of the arms, torso, and legs. It codifies a major Russian approach to technique and expressive movement.
