Russo-Kazan Wars

The Russo-Kazan Wars were a series of conflicts between the Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Kazan Khanate, ending with Russia’s conquest of Kazan in 1552.

Kazan Khanate: A Tatar state centered on Kazan that emerged from the fragmentation of the Golden Horde. Its shifting rulers and alliances made it Moscow’s principal opponent in the wars.
Ivan III of Russia: Grand Prince of Moscow from 1462 to 1505, known for expanding and consolidating Muscovite power. His reign saw Moscow’s first major campaigns against Kazan.
Capture of Kazan: The Russian conquest of the Kazan Khanate’s capital in 1552 under Ivan IV. The city’s fall marked the wars’ endpoint and brought Kazan under Russian rule.
Russo-Kazan War (1467–1469): A war between Moscow and Kazan that ended with a Muscovite victory and a treaty in 1469. It was an early major campaign in the long series of conflicts.

Ivan the Terrible: The first Russian ruler crowned tsar, reigning from 1547 to 1584. He led the final campaign that captured Kazan in 1552.
