Ruth Park

Ruth Park (1917–2010) was a New Zealand-born Australian author whose fiction often portrayed working-class life in Sydney. Her best-known works include The Harp in the South and Playing Beatie Bow.

The Harp in the South: Ruth Park’s 1948 novel follows an Irish-Australian family living in inner Sydney. This novel established Park’s reputation through its depiction of working-class life in Surry Hills.
