S-Bahn

An urban and suburban railway system serving a city and its surrounding region with frequent passenger trains. S-Bahn networks often combine dedicated tracks with railway lines shared with other services.

Regionalbahn: A category of regional passenger train service in Germany, generally stopping at smaller stations than express regional trains. Regionalbahn trains serve regional routes but usually lack the S-Bahn’s urban frequency and network role.
Railway junction: A point where railway tracks connect or cross, allowing trains to change routes. Junctions let S-Bahn trains serve multiple branches through a shared urban corridor.
Berlin S-Bahn: Berlin’s electric suburban railway network, whose first electric services began in 1924. Berlin’s network established the S-Bahn name and became its defining early example.
