Saadia Gaon

Saadia Gaon (882–942) was a Jewish philosopher, rabbi, and biblical translator who led the Sura academy in Babylonia. He defended rabbinic Judaism through Arabic-language works on scripture, law, and theology.

Geonim: The heads of the Babylonian Talmudic academies and their scholarly successors from roughly the seventh through eleventh centuries. Saadia held the title of gaon while leading the Sura academy.
