Sabah

Sabah is a Malaysian state on the northeastern part of Borneo, bordered by Sarawak, Brunei, the South China Sea, and the Sulu and Celebes seas.

Borneo: Borneo is an island in Southeast Asia shared by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. Sabah occupies the island’s northeastern part.
North Borneo: North Borneo was the British-administered territory that became the Malaysian state of Sabah in 1963. It was Sabah’s official name before federation.
Kinabalu Park: Kinabalu Park is a protected area in Sabah centered on Mount Kinabalu and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It protects a globally distinctive mountain ecosystem.
1964 Singapore race riots: The 1964 Singapore race riots were episodes of communal violence between Malays and Chinese in Singapore. They formed part of the tensions surrounding Malaysia’s early years, before Singapore separated.
Sarawak: Sarawak is a Malaysian state occupying northwestern Borneo. It is Sabah’s Malaysian neighbor and the other large state on Borneo.
Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu is Sabah’s capital and largest city. The state government and its principal urban center are based here.
British North Borneo Company: The British North Borneo Company administered North Borneo from 1881 until the Second World War. Its rule shaped the territory’s colonial administration and economy.
Danum Valley Conservation Area: Danum Valley Conservation Area is a protected tract of lowland rainforest in Sabah. Its largely intact forest supports research and wildlife conservation.
Project IC: Project IC is the name used for allegations that Malaysian identity documents were improperly granted to immigrants in Sabah. The allegations have fueled disputes over citizenship, migration, and electoral representation.
Brunei: Brunei is a sovereign state on the northern coast of Borneo. It borders Sabah and divides Sabah from Sarawak by land.
