Saint Lawrence

Saint Lawrence was a third-century deacon of the church in Rome, martyred in 258 under Emperor Valerian. Christian tradition remembers him for distributing church wealth to the poor and presenting them as the church’s true treasure.

Valerian: Valerian was Roman emperor from 253 to 260, when persecution of Christians intensified. His edict against Christian clergy led to Lawrence’s execution in 258.
