Samarkand

Samarkand is a historic city in southeastern Uzbekistan, renowned for its Islamic architecture and its role as a major Silk Road center.

Registan: A monumental square in Samarkand framed by three historic madrasas. Its three madrasas form the city's most recognizable architectural ensemble.
Sogdia: An ancient Iranian-speaking region of Central Asia centered on the Zeravshan Valley. Samarkand grew within Sogdia, whose merchants linked Central Asia to distant markets.
