Samogitia

Samogitia is a historical region in western Lithuania, inhabited by Samogitians and distinguished by a regional dialect and identity. It was a medieval political territory and a frontier in the Baltic crusades.

Samogitians: A Baltic ethnic group native to Samogitia, with a distinct regional identity and variety of Lithuanian. Their language and regional identity distinguish Samogitia within Lithuania.
Treaty of Melno: A 1422 treaty between the Teutonic Order and the Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania that settled their frontier. It ended the Order's claims to Samogitia and fixed a durable boundary.
