Samuel Brannan

Samuel Brannan (1819–1889) was an American newspaper publisher, Mormon leader, and entrepreneur who promoted the California Gold Rush and profited from supplying its newcomers.

Early Latter Day Saint movement: The religious movement founded by Joseph Smith in the 1830s that developed into the Latter Day Saint tradition. Brannan joined this movement before becoming a leader among California-bound Mormons.
