Samuel Slater

Samuel Slater was an English-born American industrialist who established the first successful water-powered cotton-spinning mill in the United States, helping launch American factory textile production.

Arkwright system: A factory system for cotton spinning built around water-powered machinery and centralized production. Slater learned this system in Britain and adapted its machinery and organization for American mills.
Water Frame: A water-powered spinning machine that produced strong cotton yarn using rollers and spindles. Slater’s first mill used water-frame technology to spin cotton yarn at industrial scale.
