Sándor Petőfi

Sándor Petőfi (1823–1849) was a Hungarian poet and revolutionary whose accessible verse and participation in the 1848 Revolution made him a national symbol.

Hungarian Revolution of 1848: A revolution in the Kingdom of Hungary that began in 1848 and sought constitutional government and national independence. Petőfi helped ignite the uprising and became one of its defining poetic voices.
National Song: A poem by Petőfi, written in March 1848, that calls Hungarians to rise against political subjection. Its recitation became a dramatic opening moment of the revolution.
