Sangam literature

Sangam literature is a corpus of early Tamil poetry, chiefly preserved in the Eight Anthologies and Ten Idylls. It portrays love, war, kingship, trade, and life in ancient Tamilakam.

Ettuthokai: The Eight Anthologies are a collection of classical Tamil poems within the Sangam corpus. This anthology supplies much of the corpus’s short-form lyric poetry.
Sangam: Sangam is the Tamil term for an assembly or academy, especially the legendary gatherings of poets. The corpus’s name comes from the tradition that poets composed and assessed works in such assemblies.
