Sangat

Sangat is a Sikh congregation gathered for worship, prayer, and spiritual fellowship. It is understood as a community whose members support one another in living by Sikh teachings.

Sikhism: Sikhism is a monotheistic religion founded in Punjab in the fifteenth century by Guru Nanak and developed by the Sikh Gurus. Sangat is a form of communal life within the Sikh religious tradition.

Gurdwara: A gurdwara is a place of worship and communal gathering for Sikhs. Sangat commonly gathers in a gurdwara for worship and fellowship.
Seva: Seva is selfless service performed for others without seeking personal reward. Serving the congregation turns fellowship into practical care.
Guru Amar Das: Guru Amar Das was the third Sikh Guru, known for organizing Sikh communities and promoting langar. His community-building helped establish shared gathering and service as Sikh practices.
Satsang: Satsang is a gathering for spiritual teaching, discussion, or devotional practice in Hindu traditions. It resembles sangat as spiritual fellowship but belongs to different religious traditions.
Guru Granth Sahib: The Guru Granth Sahib is Sikhism’s central scripture and its eternal living Guru. The congregation gathers to listen to and honor the Sikh scripture.
Sangat and Pangat: Sangat and Pangat is a Sikh principle linking congregational fellowship with sitting together to eat as equals. It makes social equality visible in the congregation’s shared meal.
