Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic)

Santo Domingo is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic, on Hispaniola’s southern coast. Founded by Spanish colonists in 1496, it is the oldest continuously inhabited European-founded city in the Americas.

Christopher Columbus: An Italian explorer whose voyages across the Atlantic initiated sustained European colonization of the Americas. His 1492 voyage brought Spanish rule to Hispaniola, the island where Santo Domingo was founded.
