Saratov

Saratov is a city on the Volga River in southwestern Russia and the administrative center of Saratov Oblast. It is a major river port and regional cultural and industrial center.

Saratov Fortress: A Russian military outpost founded in 1590 on the Volga to secure the river frontier. Its founding began the settlement that became Saratov.
Saratov Airport: A former airport serving Saratov, closed to regular passenger traffic in 2019. It was the city’s principal airport before a replacement opened.
Yuri Gagarin: A Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to travel into space in 1961. He studied and trained in the Saratov region before his spaceflight.
