Sarmatism

Sarmatism was a cultural and political ideology among the Polish–Lithuanian nobility, especially from the 16th to 18th centuries, that traced noble identity to the ancient Sarmatians.

Maciej Miechowita: A Polish historian and geographer whose works described the peoples and lands of eastern Europe. His writing helped distinguish historical knowledge of Sarmatians from later noble origin myths.
Absolutism: A form of government in which a ruler holds extensive centralized authority, constrained by few effective institutions. Sarmatist political ideals resisted the centralized royal power associated with absolutist states.
Golden Liberty: The political system granting the Commonwealth’s nobility extensive rights and participation in governance. Sarmatist ideals celebrated noble freedom and helped give that political order cultural meaning.
