Satellite navigation device

An electronic receiver that uses signals from satellite navigation systems to estimate its position and, often, calculate routes to destinations.

Global navigation satellite system: A satellite-based system that provides positioning, navigation, and timing services worldwide or regionally. The device receives ranging signals from one or more of these systems.
GNSS antenna: An antenna designed to receive signals from global navigation satellite systems. Its placement and design affect which weak satellite signals reach the receiver.
Automotive navigation system: An in-vehicle system that uses location and map data to guide travel by road. It combines satellite positioning with route guidance for drivers.
Assisted GPS: A system that supplies GPS receivers with network-provided data to speed acquisition or improve performance. It supplements satellite reception with assistance data, especially useful on phones.
Trilateration: A method for finding a position from measured distances to known locations. The receiver combines estimated distances to satellites to calculate its position.
GNSS receiver: An electronic system that tracks satellite signals and computes position, velocity, and time. It is the core positioning component inside a satellite navigation device.
Smartphone: A handheld mobile computer with cellular connectivity, sensors, and applications. Phones commonly integrate satellite receivers with maps and location services.
Differential GPS: A positioning technique that uses reference-station corrections to reduce GNSS errors. Corrections can improve accuracy beyond an uncorrected device fix.
Pseudorange: An apparent distance between a satellite and receiver derived from signal travel time, including clock error. Satellite signals provide the timing measurements used to estimate each distance.
Inertial navigation system: A system that estimates motion and position using accelerometers and gyroscopes. It can bridge short gaps when satellite signals are blocked or unreliable.
