Saurischia

Saurischia is one of the two major dinosaur lineages, traditionally recognized by a lizard-like pelvis. It includes theropods and sauropodomorphs.

Dinosauria: Dinosauria is the clade of reptiles that includes birds and their extinct relatives. Saurischia is one of Dinosauria’s two traditional major branches.
Harry Seeley: Harry Seeley was a British paleontologist who divided dinosaurs into Saurischia and Ornithischia in 1887. His pelvic classification established Saurischia as a major dinosaur group.
Ornithoscelida: Ornithoscelida is a proposed dinosaur clade grouping theropods with ornithischians, to the exclusion of sauropodomorphs. This hypothesis breaks up the traditional Saurischia grouping by placing theropods elsewhere.
Sauropoda: Sauropoda is a dinosaur clade of usually enormous, long-necked herbivores with column-like limbs. Sauropods are the best-known specialized descendants of saurischian sauropodomorphs.
Pelvic girdle: The pelvic girdle is the set of bones that connects the hind limbs to the vertebral column. The orientation of its bones underlies Saurischia’s traditional name and diagnosis.
Eoraptor: Eoraptor is an early dinosaur genus known from Late Triassic rocks in Argentina. Its early position among saurischians informs debates about the lineage’s beginnings.
Avemetatarsalia: Avemetatarsalia is the archosaur lineage that includes pterosaurs and dinosaurs, including birds. It supplies a broader evolutionary frame than Saurischia’s divisions within Dinosauria.
Coelurosauria: Coelurosauria is a theropod clade that includes birds, tyrannosaurs, and many feathered dinosaurs. This saurischian branch contains the lineage leading to modern birds.
Theropoda: Theropoda is a dinosaur clade that includes birds and many predominantly bipedal meat-eating forms. Theropods are one of the two major groups traditionally placed within Saurischia.
Herrerasaurus: Herrerasaurus is a Late Triassic dinosaur genus from Argentina, known from fossils including a nearly complete skeleton. It is an early saurischian whose exact placement has been debated.
