Sayed Darwish

Sayed Darwish (1892–1923) was an Egyptian singer and composer whose songs helped shape modern Egyptian music and its national song tradition.

Bilady, Bilady, Bilady: An Egyptian patriotic song whose lyrics draw on a poem by Mohamed Younis al-Qadi and whose melody is associated with Sayed Darwish. Its later adoption as Egypt’s national anthem extends Darwish’s influence into state ceremony.
