Scarborough Shoal

Scarborough Shoal is a reef and fishing ground in the South China Sea, claimed by China, the Philippines, and Taiwan. China has controlled access to the shoal since 2012.

South China Sea: A marginal sea of the western Pacific bordered by Southeast Asia and southern China. The shoal lies within this strategically contested sea.
China: A state in East Asia that claims Scarborough Shoal and has maintained control over access since 2012. China’s claim and coast-guard presence are central to the present dispute.
