A twentieth-century cultural revival that reshaped Scottish literature through renewed interest in Scots language, national history, and modernist experimentation.

Hugh MacDiarmid: The pen name of Christopher Murray Grieve, a Scottish poet and central figure in the Scottish Renaissance. His poetry and advocacy made him the movement’s most influential literary figure.
Scots language: A Germanic language spoken in Scotland, with several regional varieties and a substantial literary tradition. Writers revived Scots as a medium for modern poetry rather than treating it as merely local speech.
