Sea krait

A venomous marine elapid snake in the genus Laticauda, adapted to hunt in water but also able to move on land. Sea kraits have paddle-shaped tails and return to shore to rest and lay eggs.

Laticauda colubrina: A large sea krait species with pale bands and a broad range across the Indo-Pacific. Its enlarged ventral scales help it move on land as well as swim.
Conger eel: A family of elongated marine eels found mainly in coastal and deep-sea habitats. Conger eels are among the prey sea kraits hunt in reef crevices.
Hydrophis: A large genus of fully aquatic sea snakes in the family Elapidae. Unlike sea kraits, Hydrophis species generally cannot move effectively on land.
Laticauda: A genus of amphibious sea snakes in the family Elapidae, commonly called sea kraits. It is the genus that defines the sea krait concept.
Paddle-shaped tail: A laterally flattened tail that acts as a swimming paddle in aquatic animals. Sea kraits use this tail to propel themselves through water.
Moray eel: A family of predatory eels that live in rocky and coral reef crevices. Morays share reef shelters with sea kraits and are among their prey.
Sea snake: A common name for marine-adapted snakes, especially members of the elapid subfamilies Hydrophiinae and Laticaudinae. The broad label includes fully aquatic snakes as well as amphibious sea kraits.
Elapidae: A family of venomous snakes that includes cobras, mambas, coral snakes, and sea snakes. Sea kraits belong to this family of front-fanged venomous snakes.
Valved nostrils: Nostrils with closures that limit water entry during submersion. They help sea kraits keep seawater out while diving.
Coral reef: A marine ecosystem built chiefly by reef-forming corals and their associated organisms. Reef crevices provide sea kraits with hunting grounds and shelter.
