Sea lice

Sea lice are parasitic copepods that attach to fish and feed on mucus, skin, or blood. Species in the genus Lepeophtheirus and the genus Caligus infest salmon and other marine fish.

Lepeophtheirus salmonis: A sea-louse species that parasitizes salmon and is a major concern in salmon aquaculture. This species is the principal sea louse affecting Atlantic salmon.
Salmon aquaculture: The commercial farming of salmon, usually in net pens or land-based systems. Dense farmed populations can sustain large numbers of sea lice.
Sea-louse lesions: Skin damage caused by sea-louse attachment and feeding on fish. Lesions can create routes for infection and disrupt skin function.
