Sea-Monkeys are brine shrimp sold as a novelty pet in kits that hatch dormant eggs in a small aquarium. Their marketing presented the tiny crustaceans as miniature, humanlike companions.

Brine shrimp: Small saltwater crustaceans in the genus Artemia, widely used as live food and in educational kits. Sea-Monkeys are domesticated and marketed brine shrimp.
Harold von Braunhut: An American novelty inventor and marketer who created the Sea-Monkeys product. Von Braunhut developed and promoted the kits as an at-home pet.

Yankee Magazine: A regional American magazine founded in 1935 and known for New England coverage. Its 1957 issue carried one of the early ads for von Braunhut’s brine shrimp kits.
