Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee is a freshwater lake in northern Israel, also called Lake Tiberias and Lake Kinneret. The Jordan River flows into and out of it.

Jordan River: A river that flows through the Levant from the Anti-Lebanon Mountains to the Dead Sea. It enters the lake from the north and leaves it to the south.
National Water Carrier of Israel: A major Israeli water-conveyance system that transfers water from northern sources toward central and southern regions. It historically drew water from the lake to supply areas elsewhere in Israel.
Capernaum: An ancient settlement on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, known for archaeological remains and New Testament accounts. Its lakeside ruins offer a prominent example of ancient settlement around the lake.

Lake Kinneret water level: The measured elevation of the Sea of Galilee's surface, tracked against fixed reference levels. Water withdrawals and drought make its level a key indicator of available lake reserves.
Magdala: An ancient town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, with substantial archaeological remains. Its excavated harbor and settlement reveal activity on the lake's western shore.
Sea of Galilee in Christianity: The lake's role in Christian scripture, tradition, and pilgrimage. Its Gospel associations have made the shoreline a major Christian pilgrimage landscape.
Upper Jordan River: The northern reach of the Jordan River, extending from its headwaters to the Sea of Galilee. Its tributaries supply the lake's principal river inflow.
Israel Water Authority: The Israeli government agency responsible for managing the country's water resources. It monitors and manages the lake as part of Israel's water supply.
