Second Battle of Panipat

The Second Battle of Panipat was fought on 5 November 1556 between Mughal forces led by Akbar’s regent Bairam Khan and the army of Hemu. Hemu’s defeat secured Mughal control over Delhi and much of northern India.

Hemu: Hemu was a Hindu general and ruler who challenged Mughal power in northern India in 1556. His capture after an arrow struck his eye helped turn the battle against his forces.
Humayun: Humayun was the second Mughal emperor, whose reign was interrupted by the Sur dynasty before he reclaimed his throne. His death in 1556 created the succession crisis that Hemu exploited.
Mughal conquest of northern India: The Mughal conquest of northern India was the expansion of Mughal authority across the region during the sixteenth century. The victory at Panipat gave Akbar a base for extending control beyond Delhi.
