Second Triumvirate

A legally constituted alliance of Octavian, Mark Antony, and Lepidus, established in 43 BCE to govern the Roman Republic and defeat their political enemies.

Lex Titia: A Roman law of 43 BCE that granted Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus authority as triumvirs for restoring the Republic. This statute gave the alliance formal public authority rather than the status of a private pact.
Julius Caesar: A Roman general and dictator whose assassination in 44 BCE triggered a struggle over his political legacy. His death created the power vacuum the triumvirs joined forces to control.

Liberators' civil war: The Roman civil war between Caesar’s heirs and supporters and the senators who killed him, fought from 44 to 42 BCE. The triumvirate was formed to prosecute this war against Caesar’s assassins.
