Sega Saturn

The Sega Saturn is a fifth-generation home video game console released by Sega in 1994. Its dual-CPU architecture supported strong 2D graphics but made development unusually complex.

SH-2: A 32-bit RISC microprocessor designed by Hitachi and used as the Sega Saturn’s main CPU. Two SH-2 processors formed the Saturn’s central processing architecture.
Sega: A Japanese entertainment company known for arcade games, video game consoles, and franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog. Sega developed and marketed the Saturn as its next-generation home console.
Virtua Fighter: A 1993 Sega arcade fighting game that helped popularize polygonal 3D character graphics. Its Saturn port was a major early showcase for the console’s arcade lineage.

Virtua Fighter 2: A 1994 Sega arcade fighting game featuring detailed polygonal characters and fast-paced combat. Its Saturn conversion demonstrated how well the system could reproduce demanding arcade games.
Nintendo 64: Nintendo’s 64-bit home video game console, released in 1996, which used cartridges rather than optical discs. Its later launch and different media format offered another alternative to the Saturn.
VDP2: A video display processor designed to generate scrolling backgrounds and display planes. Its multiple scrolling planes gave Saturn games distinctive 2D effects.
Sega 32X: A hardware add-on for the Sega Genesis, released in 1994 to provide 32-bit graphics. Its overlapping launch complicated Sega’s transition from the Genesis to the Saturn.
