Semantic Web

The Semantic Web is an extension of the World Wide Web that uses shared standards and linked data to make information more understandable and usable by machines.

Resource Description Framework: A graph-based data model for describing resources through subject–predicate–object statements. RDF expresses Semantic Web facts as linked statements that machines can process.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol: The application-layer protocol used to transfer resources across the web. HTTP provides the familiar web infrastructure on which Semantic Web identifiers and data can be accessed.
Tim Berners-Lee: A computer scientist who invented the World Wide Web and proposed the Semantic Web vision. Berners-Lee articulated the vision of a web whose data machines could interpret.
DBpedia: A knowledge base that extracts structured information from Wikipedia and publishes it as linked data. DBpedia made encyclopedia facts available as interconnected machine-readable data.
World Wide Web: A system of interlinked resources accessed over the internet through web protocols. The Semantic Web extends the document-centered web with structured, machine-interpretable relationships.
Web Ontology Language: A family of knowledge-representation languages for defining classes, properties, and logical relationships on the web. OWL adds formal vocabularies and inferences to Semantic Web data.
Extensible Markup Language: A markup language for encoding structured documents using custom tags. XML was an early serialization format used by Semantic Web standards.
World Wide Web Consortium: An international standards organization that develops protocols and guidelines for the web. W3C groups developed and standardized many Semantic Web technologies.
Wikidata: A collaboratively edited knowledge base that stores structured data for Wikimedia projects and other uses. Wikidata demonstrates shared identifiers and multilingual structured facts at large scale.
Microformats: Conventions for embedding structured information in HTML using existing class attributes. Microformats offer simpler, less formal markup than Semantic Web ontology languages.
