Sentience

Sentience is the capacity to have subjective experiences, including sensations, feelings, and perceptions. It concerns whether there is something it is like to be a being.

Consciousness: Consciousness is awareness of internal or external experience, often discussed as a state of being awake or having subjective experience. Sentience is commonly treated as the capacity for phenomenal consciousness.
Integrated information theory: Integrated information theory proposes that consciousness corresponds to the amount and structure of integrated information in a system. It offers a quantitative account of which systems may support experience.
Animal consciousness: Animal consciousness is the capacity of nonhuman animals to have experiences such as sensations, emotions, or perceptions. It applies the question of sentience across species with different nervous systems.

Pain in animals: Pain in animals is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Evidence of painful experience makes sentience relevant to animal welfare.
Other minds problem: The problem of other minds asks how anyone can know that beings other than oneself have conscious experiences. Sentience is private, so its presence in others must be inferred.
