Sergiu Celibidache

Sergiu Celibidache (1912–1996) was a Romanian conductor and music theorist known for his Munich Philharmonic tenure and an interpretive approach shaped by phenomenology.

Wilhelm Furtwängler: German conductor and composer who led the Berlin Philharmonic for much of the Nazi era and after the war. Celibidache succeeded Furtwängler as chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in 1945.
Phenomenology of Music: An approach to musical experience that examines how sound is perceived and unfolds in consciousness. Celibidache used phenomenological ideas to explain why musical meaning depends on listening conditions.
Bruckner Symphony No. 8: Anton Bruckner's expansive symphony in C minor, completed in 1887 and revised in 1890. Celibidache's performances of Bruckner became prominent examples of his broad tempos and architectural pacing.
