Settlement of Iceland

The migration and establishment of Norse and Celtic communities in Iceland, mainly during the ninth and tenth centuries. It created the foundations of Icelandic society and its medieval political institutions.

Norsemen: Scandinavian seafarers and settlers active during the Viking Age. Norse migrants formed the largest group of settlers arriving from Scandinavia.
