Seventeenth Dynasty of Egypt

The Seventeenth Dynasty ruled from Thebes during Egypt’s Second Intermediate Period. Its final kings fought the Hyksos, and its military successes paved the way for reunification under Ahmose I.

Second Intermediate Period: A period of political division and competing dynasties in Egypt between the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom. The dynasty ruled during this era of fragmented Egyptian authority.
Seqenenre Tao: A Seventeenth Dynasty king of Thebes who fought the Hyksos and died from severe head wounds. His death marks the violence of the dynasty’s conflict with the Hyksos.
Kamose Stela: An inscription recording King Kamose’s campaign against the Hyksos and his capture of Avaris’s river traffic. It presents the Theban campaign in the king’s own account.
