Sexual roleplay
An erotic activity in which participants adopt characters, roles, or scenarios to shape a sexual fantasy or encounter.
Sexual consent: Freely given, informed, specific, and reversible agreement to participate in sexual activity. Roleplay scenarios require agreement about what participants want and do not want.
Role-playing game: A game in which participants portray characters and make choices within an imagined setting. Sexual roleplay uses character portrayal and imagined situations without necessarily having game rules.
BDSM: A broad set of consensual practices involving bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism, or masochism. Some roleplay adopts power-exchange themes within negotiated BDSM activity.
Sexual well-being: A state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality. For participants, roleplay is one possible part of a satisfying and respectful sexual life.
Sexual communication: The exchange of preferences, boundaries, and feedback related to sexual activity. Discussing the scenario beforehand helps align expectations and boundaries.
Improvisation: The creation of words or actions spontaneously, without a fully predetermined script. Participants often develop dialogue and events as the scenario unfolds.
Power exchange: A consensual arrangement in which participants assign or share authority within defined limits. Roles may dramatize authority differences while actual control remains negotiated.
Intimacy: Closeness between people involving emotional connection, trust, or personal disclosure. Sharing fantasies and negotiating scenarios can build closeness between partners.
Sexual fantasy: An imagined erotic scenario, thought, or experience that may or may not be acted upon. Roleplay gives participants a way to enact or adapt imagined scenarios.
Erotic fiction: Fiction that depicts or evokes sexual desire and activity. Scripts and stories can provide language or scenarios for roleplay.
