Knowra Shandong Peninsula Shandong Peninsula A peninsula in eastern China, bordered by the Bohai Sea to the north and the Yellow Sea to the east and south. It includes much of Shandong Province and projects into the Yellow Sea.
Shandong : A province on China’s eastern coast, centered on the lower Yellow River and including the Shandong Peninsula. The peninsula forms the province’s eastern projection into the Yellow Sea.
Qi (state) : A powerful state of the Zhou period, based in parts of present-day Shandong. Its territory encompassed much of the peninsula in ancient times.
Port of Qingdao : A major Chinese seaport on Jiaozhou Bay, handling international trade and container traffic. It is the peninsula’s largest maritime hub and a major link to global shipping.
Bohai Strait : The strait connecting the Bohai Sea with the Yellow Sea between Shandong and Liaodong. It separates the peninsula’s northeastern tip from Liaodong and controls access to the Bohai Sea.
Bohai Sea : A shallow marginal sea in northeastern China, connected to the Yellow Sea through the Bohai Strait. It bounds the peninsula on the north and northwest.
Dengzhou : A historic coastal city in northeastern Shandong, known as a port and military center. Its harbor connected the peninsula with maritime routes across the Bohai region.
Yantai : A port city on the northeastern coast of the Shandong Peninsula, facing the Bohai Strait. Its location supports trade, fisheries, and connections with Liaoning across the strait.
Liaodong Peninsula : A peninsula in northeastern China, extending south between the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea. It faces Shandong across the Bohai Strait, creating a geographic counterpart.
Yellow Sea : A marginal sea of the western Pacific between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula. Its waters border the peninsula to the east and south.
Qingdao German concession : A German colonial territory centered on Qingdao from 1898 until Japan seized it in 1914. Foreign occupation transformed the peninsula’s southern port into a strategic naval base.
