Shanghai

Shanghai is a major Chinese port city on the Yangtze River estuary, where the river meets the East China Sea. It is a municipality directly governed by China’s central government.

Treaty of Nanking: The 1842 treaty that ended the First Opium War and opened five Chinese ports to British trade. Its terms opened Shanghai to foreign trade and consular residence.
