Shchedryk

A Ukrainian New Year’s song arranged by Mykola Leontovych, built around a repeating four-note motif. Its melody later became widely known in English as “Carol of the Bells.”

Four-note motif: A short musical pattern of four pitches that recurs throughout a composition. The persistent four-note figure gives Shchedryk its recognizable drive.
