Shenyang

Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning province in northeastern China. Historically known as Mukden, it was a major center of Manchu rule and remains a regional industrial hub.

Mukden: Mukden is the historical name used for Shenyang, especially in Manchu and Qing contexts. This name appears in accounts of Shenyang before and during its rise as a Qing capital.
Mukden Incident: The Mukden Incident was a 1931 explosion near a Japanese railway in Manchuria used to justify Japan’s invasion. The incident took place near Shenyang and triggered the occupation of Manchuria.

Zhang Xueliang: Zhang Xueliang was a Chinese military leader who governed Manchuria and later helped precipitate the Xi’an Incident. His family’s rule linked Shenyang to the politics of early twentieth-century Manchuria.
